Good Samaritan Network in Action
These are some pictures of our efforts amongst the liberian refugess in Budiburan; Ghana.
Budiburan in Ghana hosts over 40,000 displaced Liberian refugees living in sub human conditions; the camp has no water supply system and electricity supply is erratic. The refugees’ toilet in the bush and drink flood waters or dirty untreated stream waters from which they also do their laundry. Some of the children had arrived here 16 years ago at the onset of the first war that saw Samuel Doe out of power in Monrovia; growing up with no knowledge of their home country; some of the young ladies were victims of rape and had delivered their bastard children on the camp; many are traumatized by the various atrocities they experienced while fleeing their ravaged countries; some children were fleeing with their parents when they were gunned down and they managed to climb into the ship hence having no knowledge of their background save that they are Liberians.
In this hopeless situation, many young girls take to prostitution to make ends meet because Ghanaians would not employ them more so when they are unlearned.
The young men just loaf around doing nothing; many are scared of returning to Liberia because of lack of home to return to and nothing to do there; they wait all day hoping to be included in the UN project that repatriate some fortunate refugees to USA.
Our ministry runs an orphanage for orphaned children and a social center teaching vocational skills to the youth,disadvantaged children who live and work on the streets in the camp.Our aim is to raise enough money to transfer about 2,000 Liberian refugee women, children and youth at Budiburan, Ghana back home to Liberia with viable economic pursuit because under the current UN repatriation program; each returning refugee is flown home free by aero plane with minimum luggage; fed for 3 months on returning home and giving 5 US dollars to start life with in a country that is completely devastated with no housing, transportation, electricity etc in addition……many have no home to return to hence without groups like ours helping out with programs like this, peace may not last in Liberia;
Your help is greatly needed.
